You are not the problem. The model answer is.
It was written slowly, at a desk, with no clock running, by someone writing in their first language. Then it was handed to you as the thing to copy — and nobody told you that you did not have to.
This page gives you the five sentences that actually carry the marks in SBL. They are short. The words are ordinary. You already know every one of them.

Let us be honest about the first one.
Reading a long exhibit in a second language. Translating in your head while the clock runs. Getting tired by hour three. Writing more slowly than the person next to you.
That is a real disadvantage. It costs you time and it costs you energy, and native speakers do not pay that cost. I am not going to pretend otherwise.
Now the second one — and this is what nobody tells you.
Clear writing is marked. Impressive writing is not.
The Communication skill rewards writing that makes your point clearer: short, exact, easy for the reader to act on. It does not reward writing that makes your point fancier. Long sentences, difficult words, elegant phrasing — on their own, those earn nothing.

This is not permission to write carelessly. If the board cannot follow you, that costs you, because you have stopped being clear. The line is between clear and impressive. Not between careful and careless.

So the failure is this. You spend a scarce, expensive budget on the half of your English that pays nothing.
